Helix Nebula @ ISC Big Data conference, 25-26 September 2013, Heidelberg, Germany

EMBL presented Helix Nebula at the ISC Big Data conference on 25-26 September 2013 in Heidelberg, Germany
Rupert Lueck of EMBL presented Helix Nebula at the ISC Big Data 2013 conference in Heidelberg on September 25th, 2013. He explained how the federated pan-European cloud will support large-scale analysis of genomic data which is one of today's key big data challenges for life science research at EMBL as well as for many other labs from the biomedical domain. The event brought together some 130+ representatives from data-intensive enterprises and large-scale scientific HPC installations to share know-how and best practices in large data management and big data analytics.

The feedback from the participants indicated a lot of interest in the technologies used by EMBL to implement the cloud-based genome analysis pipeline and to facilitate data management. Since representatives from Helix Nebula partnership, The Server Labs, were also present in the audience, attendees took the opportunity to ask for first hand information on more general technical aspects of the Helix Nebula bluebox, the layer that caters for cloud federation and brokerage.
