Europe’s Leading Public-Private Partnership for Cloud

The Helix Nebula Initiative is a partnership between industry, space and science to establish a dynamic ecosystem, benefiting from open cloud services for the seamless integration of science into a business environment. Today, the partnership counts over 40 public and private partners.

Past Events

Rupert Lueck, EMBL, was a featured speaker at the Bio-IT World Europe Conference & Expo, 10 October 2012, Vienna.

Giles Hogben (CSA) will present the Helix Nebula project in the most important information security congress in Europe: the RSA Europe in London, during the CSA Summit on the 8th of October.
The CSA summit offers speakers and participants the chance to get familiar with the most influential cloud security initiatives around the world and get involved with educational and awareness initiatives promoting cloud security.

Bob Jones (CERN) will present Helix Nebula-The Science Cloud in Cyberspace conference in Budapest.

Key points of CERN's presentation:

Prof. Cuomo (CNR) will give a presentation at the Italian Embassy in Brussels next October 2nd on the Helix Nebula - The Science Cloud. His presentation focuses on "Space at service of citizens". Therefore, he will essentially talk about space based services, but also about new possibilities for service implementation.

Robert Jenkings (CloudSigma) gives a speach on Helix Nebula: Searching tomorrow's innovation with today's cloud, during the CSA EMEA Annual Congress 26th of September in Amsterdam.

A presentation of the challenges, the motivation, the scope, but also into more technical details - Architecture plan, security requirements etc, provides to the audience the opportunity to familiarise with the HN project and possibly to participate in the future.

On September 24th, starting at 1 pm, ISC Cloud’12 will host a keynote session focused on the Helix Nebula Initiative advancements.

Entitled Big science teams up with big business to kick-start European cloud computing - Progress of Helix Nebula - the Science Cloud, the keynote session opening the two day ISC Cloud’12 event, on September 24th  will be dedicated entirely to the Helix Nebula project developments.

The first Helix Nebula Workshop Interoperability among e-Infrastructures and Commercial Clouds will be held on the 19 September 2012 - Prague, Czech Republic in conjunction with the EGI Technical Forum 2012.
•
The first of three workshops, co-located with the EGI Technical Forum 2012, brings together technology and policy representatives from public e-Infrastructures and commercial cloud providers to address the integration and interoperation of their respective infrastructures.

Maryline Lengert (ESA) will present Helix Nebula - the Science Cloud at NORDUnet 2012, 18 September 2012, Oslo, Norway.

This year the NORDUnet 2012 conference has joined forces with UNINETT in bringing together the networking community from Nordic universities and NRENs, along with their European and global colleagues. The aim of the conference is to showcase Nordic, European & global collaborations, future developments, current challenges and recent results within the topics and areas covered by the conference.

On the 12-13 June 2012, Bob Jones, from CERN's IT department, was invited to present Helix Nebula at the Cloud Computing World Forum, Earls Court, London.
The Cloud Computing World Forum is an industry event with several thousand participants. The programme had a number of parallel sessions and a continuous exhibition.
Main highlights from the programme:

Maryline Lengert, ESA, on the 12 of June 2012 gave a presentation on Helix Nebula - The Science Cloud "Scientific Cloud Computing Infrastructure for Europe" at the e-IRG workshop held in Copenhagen.

The workshop was attended by about 90 participants from Research infrastructure, EC staff and projects, Regional initiatives  and national delegates to the e-IRG board.
