Helix Nebula @ The 2nd Innovation Convention, 10-11 March 2014, Brussels
ESA presented Helix Nebula at the 2nd Innovation Union on 10-11 March 2014 in Brussels.
The Innovation Convention is an essential part of the Innovation Union flagship initiative, the European Union strategy which aims to create an innovation-friendly environment that makes it easier for great ideas to be turned into products and services that will bring our economy growth and jobs.
The session on "Big data, big future?" was attended by about 300 people. The panel included Victor HENNING (Co-Founder and CEO of Mendeley & VP Strategy of Elsevier, Germany), Christina PETERS (Chief Privacy Officer, IBM, United States) and Maryline LENGERT (Senior Advisor, European Space Agency). The discussion included both public and private data.
For scientific data it was recognised that there is a huge potential for innovation coming from the exploitation of cross disciplinary data sets. The questions from the attendees in the room focused primarily on the privacy issues linked to usage of personal data.
